Tell me about a 3204, please
Well, since my 682 died, my wife expressed her displeasure that I was wasting time and money on my old tractors. She opined that it would be smarter for me to spend a little more and buy a newer tractor that would work without me having to work on it all the time. That idea appeals to me. :beerchug:
So...I am looking at a 3204, a 2182, and a 2284...and a few green ones, all around $2,000. Can anybody talk to me about these three models? My requirements are that they have hydraulics and be capable of adding a Cat 0 three point. I mostly need it for mowing, but I will use it for other work, like dragging deadwood, grading gravel, and gardening. I have no interest in a simple lawn tractor. I like things that last a long time and that have parts available, unlike the KT17 in my 682. I like the Kohler Command engine of the 3204 and 2284, as well as the Kubota water-cooled three cylinder on the 2182. All three of these tractors are at least 2.5 hours drive from me, so I need to ask good questions on the phone. Your help would be appreciated. |
hey buddy. coming from a fellow virginia member. If you dont get the 2182, send it my way. Please?? :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2:

Thenrie, the 3000 series are okay but if it doesn't have a cat 0 on it they are NLA and hard to come by. Two just sold on Epay for over $500 each a few months back. They also feel a little light but I guess weight can be added.
Of the 3 you listed I would pick the 2182 with the Kubota gas engine over any air cooled engine in any Cub. I think it should also have the bigger 30mm axles and it will have the CV type drive line. The Kubota engines run very smooth. Good luck! |

I take it the 3204 is not as HD as the 2182 and 2284. Am I right? Can you hang a 44C deck on any of these? The 2182 and 2284 both have 60" decks, which I don't need. I have lots of trees and hills and do better with a narrower deck. |
I think all the cyclops used the CV type drive line. Those 60" decks bring pretty good money. The 3000 series use a drive shaft to a gear box on top of the deck and are unique to that series.

I have a selection that you can pick from. I need to reduce the herd a bit. I have a 1210 that is now a 1640, a 2182, a 2282, a 2284 and a 2185. The 2282 and the 2284 have brand new Kohler CH22's in them and they have 60" decks but I do have other decks if the 60's are too large or you could probably use the deck from your tractor. Prices range from $800.00 to $3500.00 |
Sam, you must have quite a collection.
Tell me about your 2182. I have a 2182 and 2284 I'm looking at and I'm shopping. I saw your 2284 on another forum and know it's out of my price range already. I know we can't discuss sales and prices on this forum, so please PM me. |

I agree, a repower would be a good idea if you liked the tractor. It would be good as new and you would know what you have.

I just posted on the 682 thread that it looks like that's what I'm going to do, although I may not go with the pre-packaged Vanguard re-power kit. Then again, I may. I'm going to see if I can stick my K341 in it for a temporary fix, while I shop around for a good replacement motor...or until I get my 1650 finished. I just decided I really like my 682 and I really don't like the new models. They look like plastic toys and I'm not real sure they will be around in another 30 years, like my 1650 and 682 will be. I just have a hard time laying down that much money on something that doesn't need any work! I know. My wife doesn't understand it either.
Power steering would be nice, though...Maybe a 2072 some day. Thanks for the help and interest, guys. |
