1641 Hydro pump question
I am rebuilding my 1641 that has been sitting for 7 years in the weather. I'm putting it back together now. While repainting the frame, I sprayed some over the fins of the hydro pump. Now I think this may cause it overheat.
Should I sandblast the paint off the fins or is it okay to leave it alone? Any suggestions? Also I know it was not supposed to be towed but when it broke down 7 years ago I didn't know anything else to do. It may be damaged. I have it on a stand and the forward and reverse seems to work but is there anything I need to the transmission or pump before I try to use it? |
Most people run them with 1/4" of dirt on the fins, do you think 0.002" of paint will matter!!?? :bigthink:
I think you are perfectly safe with the paint. Isn't that same hydro used in the 18HP?? http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...853640x496.jpg The paint will not heat it as much as 2 more horsepower. :beerchug: |
:Welcome2:
Don't sand blast Alum. Use aircraft stripper if you want it off.:TwoCents: Is your fan in good shape? |
Thanks for your help. I just let it go. I don't know any other models the pump fits except for the 1441. Fan was in good shape. I replaced everything that even the slightest signs of wear. It looks and runs like new except now I'm having trouble turning the engine off. I installed a new fuel solenoid and switch but keeps running after I cut the switch off. I don't know if it's a bad switch or what. I can hear the solenoid activate when I turn the switch on. Isn't the switch supposed to cut the engine off by grounding also?
