I Poofed The Starter in My 1872!!
Well, the 1872 has never really started right for the last couple years.
I have posted about it before, and I was recommended to take the starter out and etc............... :bigthink: Well I never wanted to get the starter out, I tried bigger battery cables, cleaning the grounds, installing a 390 amp battery. Everything helped a little, but, none were the "Big Fix"!! It is springtime, I need the 1872 and didn't want to tear it apart. I figure I would try one more band-aid!! I took off the left engine cover and just "poofed" some of this on the exposed end of the starter. http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...010800x470.jpg I bought it at NAPA 20 years ago, don't know if it is still available. Well, the results were more than shocking!! The 1872 starts so fast now, I let go of the switch as soon as I hear the starter make a sound. The 1872 is running!! First time, every time!! Amazing what a poof can do!! |
That's great, CAD! Glad the 1872 is starting well for you now.

Ha! Glad that's what the pic was. I was expecting to see a photo of a burnt wiring harness and melted starter lugs! A little dry lube goes a long way. My buddy's 1450 (whose starter is far more accessible) was having issues with the bendix not kicking out; he took it apart and lubed it and has not had anymore problems with it for over a year now. :beerchug:

I tryed some "chain wax" dry lube for dirt bike mo'sikkles.
So far it stopped that annoying noise. With a little application tube provided, it was a easy application. I'll will see how long it lasts--- |
Great to hear CAD!:beer2:
