I have a shot at a 1977 1204 with the 12 HP Kohler engine. Thing looks in excellent shape (apart from the usual split in the seat) and starts and runs well. Only attachment is the deck. Any idea what this is worth? He wants $500, which seems a lot for a 1977.

Can't be 1977...1987, probably. 1204 has the peerless 4-speed, which is nothing to write home about. At $500, I'd wait for something more desirable to show up.
