Overfill Oil - Help!
 

I had a senior moment with my 1440, friends. I poured in too much oil. Before I realized it, I started and drove the tractor. It soon began to pour out smoke. I stopped, and figured I must have put in too much oil. Let it set, checked the dip stick, and sure enough. So I drained out what should not have been there. Now my question is, did I harm my B&S 14hp engine? What should I do before I use the tractor again? I appreciate the help, cause I don't know what to do. I did a search on the forum, but did not find anything.

Well I would get the correct amount of oil in it and start it and run it. If you see no smoke or oil leaks you probably will be OK. Make sure to check behind the PTO for leaks after you run it for a few minutes. They are notorious for that crank seal popping out.

Check the air filter it may be soaked with oil. Doubt that you hurt it. Worked on one in a 2160 that was a QT over full. Women wondered why it was smoking.:bash2:

Yeah, I agree that the breather probably soaked the whole air cleaner with oil. That's always a nice mess:bash2:

Thanks for the help guys. I got the oil level down to where it should be. I removed the air cleaner. There was oil in the pan but the filter was not soaked. Some in the pre filter. Here is the issue that concerns me now: the tractor starts and runs well, but it is smoking a good amount. Will it just take a while to burn all of the excess oil out? Or is this a sign of other damage.

Learned a lesson here!

Use it, if it don't quit smoking it needs fixed.
if it does quit, you don't have to do anything.
