engine question

not sure if this should be here or in the engine section please move it if needed thanks.
i have a john deere 112 and about the only thing good about it is the 12 horse kohler thats in it. will this engine work in my 122 ? i know i would possibly have to change things out to make it work correctly but what parts exactly would need to be swapped? and would i have to buy anything extra? thanks

If the tractor is in good shape and round fendered, it might bring enough to to buy you 2 cubs, but it is all about condition & location.

no its not a round fender or it woulda been sold already, no mower deck and only has electric lift and blade. dosnt even have a pto on it. and my 122 needs a engine

If it is a starter/generator engine, it should work fine. Drive hub, pto, gas tank bracket, etc..would need to be changed over. :beerchug:

If it doesn't have the narrow base block and oil pan, it won't work, regardless of whether or not it has a starter/generator. I'm pretty sure the JDs have a CW S/G as well, so it isn't mounted the same. Sell the JD engine to someone with a JD and find the correct engine for your tractor.

thats more or less what i was looking for. the wiring didnt bother me as i would just use everything off the deere and its not a s/g type. thanks everyone for the help

I have never seen a wide block that had an S/G, they all have had starters...So that's why I was saying that.

Matt, I put an engine out of a JD 316 in a Cub 149 with very little work.

Cubby 102, if you could get us some good pictures of the engine, especially down by the oil pan, we could give you a yes or no.

thats gonna be a little hard as i had a accident at work friday night. cut the tip of my thumb off so no working on the cubs or anything for awhile and the engine is still in the deere... it does look wider at the pan compaired to the engines i have for the cubs though

He's putting it in a NF, so this is a whole different ballgame. The wide base block will not fit into a NF without modifications to the engine block, period. This is why he just needs to get the correct engine...
