Kohler 14 horse

I'm looking at a 14hp Kohler engine that is spitting oil and fumes out the dip stick if you remove it while it's running, using about 1/2 qt of oil in 2 hours. It's showing 120 on a cylinder psi gauge, what should it have ? Spark plug is black but doesn't foul out. A friend bought this tractor and the guy he bought it from said it was rebuilt and it just needed time for the rings to seat but he was full of it and long gone.

sounds like the rings arnt set, if he really did build the eng and not just rering it.

If you build an eng and mow some grass or plow with it, just work it against the gov, it will seat the rings just fine.

is spitting oil and fumes out the dip stick if you remove it while it's running --- yer not suppost to remove the dipstick while running.
Moving along, most all used equipment "has been all rebuilt" just ask the seller!
When pressured if they are honest, they tell you well I replaced the aircleaner and spark plug 2 years ago--- and hosed off the dirt!!
or maybe a rattle can overhaul, seen it too many times.
1/2 qt in 2 hrs sounds like a typical worn motor that needs attention.
