Wild Weather

1 Attachment(s)
Just wondering how you guys are doing with the wild weather we have been getting the last couple days. So far I've been pretty lucky, only had one small apple tree come down and a couple branches. My guess is the tractors will be doing a bit of storm cleanup work.

Looked like a 4th of July fireworks show last night with the lightning storm we got.

It was rough here last night. Jenn and I were coming home from Walmart and seen some downed trees and power lines. Tried three different ways to get home. I have some clean up to do later.

We had a pretty bad one here also, haven't seen any trees down and the garden stood up to it just fine. The lightening show looked like an ac/dc concert though. I walked outside about 10 and no sooner than I opened the door a big bolt struck right in the middle of my driveway causing the hair on my arms to jump up and down..lol

About 20 miles north of us got the worst of it last night and many people still without electric. We had about 30 minutes of rain and a lot of lightning. Looks like our tomato plants are about all that is going to make it. But if we don't get more rain they won't last long. Almost 3 weeks without rain and 100+ degrees last two weeks.

Just talked to my sister, she lives near DC and she say's it looks like a bomb went off. Glad to hear that you guys are OK.

Lynchburg city is the worst around here. About every 5th midtown house has been hid by trees, about every 10th one is destroyed. Fallen power lines EVERYWHERE. The power is knocked at my house and will probably be off till Saturday. Thank gosh for generators. luckily though we got away unscathed.
hope everyone else is alright.

No kidding. I can not believe how the power company runs power lines in this area, they have lines running right through the trees. And they wonder why they have problems. When I moved here one of the first things I did to my place was put in a 20KW standby gen set. :biggrin2:

They do some crazy things here in my neck of the woods too. There is an older subdivision on the edge of town that comes to mind. Instead of cutting one particular tree down, they made about a 6x6 hole in the branches to run a line. That one tree fell and knocked out the power for the whole neighborhood. Its just ridiculous.

Thats the end of my rant. :BlahBlah:

storm

Hello, Still here, got power back yesterday about noon. Almost lost my meter pole, 3 truck loads of brush cut from the tree top wedged against it. Tricky getting that top cut and slid out. Old rusty 3/8 guy wire shreaded in half but held. Neighor 1/2 mile away lost his meter pole, thats where trees started jerking on the lines. We have 3 hot lines on a set of poles, pulled one off of three poles between him and me, flying loose in the woods, and others hanging low, cracked the cross tie on both ends. Cambridge thinks they had a twister, one big church collasped, roofs off NAPA and tire store, windows and walls blown out of buildings. Never seen so many trees down before. Happy to have power back and cool off, another week of cutting and cleaning up. Mike
