Confused about 1863 hydro fluid
 

I need to add fluid to my hydro-trans. I know this topic has been beat to death but I have read several threads about it and have not been able to understand what I can use. My owners manual says on page 43 to use 737-3025 http://www.messicks.com/partdetail/737-3025.aspx , and on page 35 that I can use a fluid that meets IH B-6 ( I have 5 gal of Coastal tractor fluid that meets IH B-6). I read several threads that state that the hydro-gear's use motor oil. I have motor oil. Should I use the IH B-6, motor oil or do I need to find or order 737-3025? I looked for the transaxle number and found model 618-3052 ser# 04019, It doesn't seem to show up at cub or hydro-gear.

Hy-Tran Ultra is top notch stuff. I had a Lesco ZTR with Hydro-Gear pumps (same brand that is on the 1863)and it took 20 or 30 wt motor oil. I would find a Case/IH dealer near you and buy 2 gallon jugs of Hy-Tran for about $16 to $18 a gallon and know that you are safe. I saw the Costal stuff at TSC and it says it meets the specs of Hytran but I passed on it. If you don't want to spend that kind of money on the IH oil you would probably be okay with the Coastal. I know a fella up in Pickins SC that uses that stuff and he doesn't have any problems with it.

Use the red IH Hytran fluid or the Cub Cadet brand fluid - I think you have a sunstrand hydro if I recall correctly. I have the 1811 same vintage and used standard hydro fluild - it worked ok but had more whine and when I changed back to Hytran it was quieter and ran better.

x2 on what they are saying...But, if you can't get a hold of Hy-Tran....Go to a JD dealer and get Hy-Guard. It is the same thing as Hy-Tran, and works as good as it, too! :beerchug:

Ive been using th coastal for years, aint had a problem yet with the old cubs.

The 1863 used a Hydro-Gear pump and not a Sunstrand. I have never used anything but Hytran but I was tempted when I serviced mine....maybe next time.:biggrin2:
