102 tossing deck belt?
when i first got my 102 running i had mowed my yard a good 3 or 4 times then i took the deck off to throw the blade on to push some junk around on the old burn pile. all of a sudden when i went to put the deck back on it will go about 10 - 15 feet and toss the belt every time, i cant figure it out all the pullys seem fine no wobbles that i can tell its the same belt as before. any clues from anyone?

check to see if you have the belt twisted. because when it runs through the pulleys if its twisted, the angle on the pulleys of the mule drive will throw it off. i had this problem on my 122 and for the life of me could not figure it out until i inspected the belt the next time i hooked it up.
i would also say check to see if your mule drive pulleys are tight and have no wobble, but if you were using it before with no trouble then it wouldn't be those. |
Yeah it's real easy to get the belt twisted as you installing it. I've had it on backwards before but caught myself and fixed it before attempting to use it.

ill double check it. as long as i leave the deck fully up it will stay on forever, as soon as i drop it and it starts to get under load it throws it off... pretty sure i dont have the belt twisted but it is a possibility, this thing has got me stumped

I added a belt guide to my deck so the belt can't be thrown off of the pulley. It's simply a cut off 5/16" bolt, 2 nuts, and a piece of 1/8" steel. The belt hasn't come off yet. (knocking on wood desk top)

I like the guide idea I might fab one up if i can't figure it out

If you have a pin deck on your 102 check the eye bolts on the front of the deck. If the are bent or loose it will thow the belt. I had the same thing happen on a 123 i was fixing. You may have to level the deck and that will fix it.
