PTO Button

Went out to mow last night with the 149 and found that the original PTO button was broken. Luckily I had about a dozen brass 1/4-20 x 1" bolts from a previous project. Put one in the bracket and double nutted on the backside.

Why are the Cub ones non-metal? Won't this tear up your PTO in time? Just wondering.

I am no engineer but if I were then I would want one of those buttons to be more wearable than the other as there is a great deal of friction involved in stopping the pto. The one that wears down needs to be easily replaced so the logical one to make of fiber is the one on the outside rather than the one interconnected to various parts of the pto. Using metal for both will eventually wear the one connected to the pto and require removal of the pto to get that one out. If a bolt is found that is much softer than the steel one in the pto then it too should work.

brass should work fine.......... I wish someone would come up with a design
using a sealed bearing so it would run with the pto instead of sliding against it.
