What type of transmission fluid should I use??
 

I have a Cub 1641 and need to service the transmission. Should I drain and refill the transmission with fresh fluid or is putting on a new filter OK? What fluid is required for this particular type transmission? Thanks a lot in advance, I really appreciate all of the advice and direction offer by the people on this site. :Thanks:

1.75 gals of Hy-Tran and a NAPA 1410 or Wix 51410 filter. You should also remove the rear cover and clean and inspect the inside and if you do replace the gasket.

Sam has you covered. If your axle seals are leaking, now will be the time to replace them because you have access to the clips. As far as buying the Hytran, your local IH/CASE dealer will have it in bulk and usually cheaper. If you go to a Cub Cadet dealer and buy it by the QT, be ready for your wallet to sting a little more.

........and bring your own gallon jug to the IH/Case dealer if you go that rout, says WildBill!:biggrin2:

I agree that Hytran is cheaper at a case IH dealer but had a problem with getting them to fill my container. They stated that they would only fill "approved" containers but would not describe what an approved container was. Of course I had to buy a jug of the stuff which came in a very ordinary plastic jug. It was still cheaper but not quite as cheap as the bulk stuff. If you are not familiar with the filter do not, I repeat do not just buy an automotive filter as they will do more harm than good. As Sam stated get one that will work. I did notice a positive difference in performance when I changed my fluid and filter.
