My Son has Hy-Tran in the rear end of his Cub Cadet. 80/90 weight oil in trans robs horsepower. Some of the high horsepower garden tractor pullers in my area (50 plus hp) use Hy-Tran, automatic transmission, or straight 30 weight oil.

A couple of years ago I would have said yes as I have it in one of my 102s and it seems to work ok. Now I would say if you are going to use it at all in the cooler weather use something a bit thinner. I just looked up in my Original "0" operators manual and they recommend Hytran or straight 30 weight motor oil. Seems that IH has been recommending HyTran from day one.

Of course they recommend its has :IH Logo: on it its like buying a ford and in the manual it say works best with genuine motorcraft parts or gm with genuine gm parts

It's your tractor, if you don't want to use Hytran then go for it.

Tractor Supply Co. has a "Travellers" brand substitute for Hytran. Can you buy 2 gallons of oil for less than $22?

Does anyone have a review of the Tractor Supply brand, in either gear or hydro Cubs?

I used SAE 30 in my 72, but I have no idea if it is good or bad. It is in the Cub Cadet manual for the 72, and it works, so I'm happy.

Like the others said, it is your tractor, so you can do as you feel the best for your situation. As for me, I will be sticking to Hy-Tran.
