Cub 3185

Have a 3185 with a blown 18hp B&S Vanguard - will a 16hp B&S Vanguard bolt in as a replacement?? Bob

It should as long as the shaft and drive shaft adapter are the same. If the 16 came out of a Cub it should be a plug and play swap.

Thanks:

From a Cub - trying to research if the only differance in the 16 vs 18 is piston bore? Can I use the Rods , Cam , Crank , Oil pump from the 16hp to rebuild the 18 hp?. Bob

Not sure what of the internals you can use - but if you go with dropping the 16 in, I wonder if you'll be happy with the power. What deck size do you run? If you have a 48" deck I'm not sure you'd want to run with less than 18 HP. Just my thoughts on it, maybe someonwe with a lower HP in this series will comment.

I was hoping the internals would interchange??? For the very reason it might be underpowered with a Vanguard 16. 48in. deck Bob

I took a look at the vanguard engine site, and the 16 and 18 HP specs I saw there show a different bore and stroke between the engines, so I don't think they will interchange. This was just a 2 minute search, so don't take it as gospel, maybe look a bit further yourself or contact them with the serial numbers from both engines.
