Question on the Kohler KT17 Series II
 

Is there a record available showing which Kohler replacement engines where installed in the Cub Cadet 782's?

From what I've found so far, my 782 came from the factory with a Series I (in 1983), but at some point, a Series II replaced it. Looks like CCC started installing the Series II engines at the factory at serial #726125, which is 10,396 units after mine was produced.

I'm just trying to narrow down how long my engine has been in my tractor.

2100 hours on the meter; 29 years old; 72 hours/year average.

Anything with 24300 & higher are Series II Engines

Not exactly. Think what I'm looking for is probably buried in the vaults of Cub Cadet and/or Kohler's archives showing which Series II engine was mated up with which CC.

Sounds like your engine has been in your tractor since it rolled off the Assembly Line.

My 782 serial number is #715729. The info I have was that they started installing the KT17 Series II engines at the factory at serial #726125.

Wouldn't that mean that my 782 had a Series I engine from the factory and later replaced with a Series II?

IF you have the OEM Engine..........here is the breakdown again.

Cub Cadet installed these KT-17 in:
665001 to 726124 = Series I
726125 to 747224 = Series II

If you have a replacement engine, then it is anybody's guess.

IF you have the Model/Serial Tag from the Kohler Engine and is readable, that will offer a year the engine was built.

I think the only horizontal KT17 Series II spec Cub Cadet used was 24302. Or at least I don't know of any others.

The info (from what could be read) off the engine:

Model: KT17S
Spec No: 24302 (the last digit was almost worn off, but looked like a "2").

The engine has no oil filter. The opening paragraph of Section 5, page 27 of the KT Manual states that the engine can perform "at operating angles up to 30 degrees."

Is this going to be a problem mowing on a slope of 10-15 degrees? Do I have anything to worry about?

Looks like the engine in your 782 was replaced at one time.

NOT all KT-17's Series II had a oil filter.
