What Did You Do With Your 2012 Tomatoes!!??
After a great tomato harvest, I had to show my wife's rig for squeezin' sauce.
We had tried several methods. My arm was always tired!! My wife had a Kitchen-Aid mixer. Well I put the facts together and went lookin'. It will do about 3+ quarts per batch. After she wore out the Kitchen-Aid, I bought a surplus Hobart, ONLY after we were sure the colander would fit!! http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...ps086d2e76.jpg The Hobart has a 3 speed transmission that would run my Cub Cadet!! If you add in the tomato juice, that colander has separated over 1000 quarts of finished tomato product. Yep that Hobart mixer will do the job, Hobart putted out some great products, I have cut tons of fresh meat on Hobart saws, Old meat Cutter here, wished I had a penny for every pound I have cut, I would be a rich man.

I wash mine and freeze them whole in gallon ziplock bags. When I make pizza or pasta sauce I take a bag out, run then under warm water and the peel comes right off and crush by hand.

I ended up with 30 #'s of blanched frozen tomatoes. I would have ended up with more if I didn't let a ton go rotten due to my laziness. When the wife and I had a full day we made sauce and canned it. My wife used to make fun of me calling me an 1900 housewife, I'm 33. She has since come to and enjoys it more then me. Can't wait for this season. Finally got myself a tiller. Had to drive to Vermont to get it but it was well worth it.

Turned my extra 'maters in to eggs, :bigthink:---well the chickens did.

I didn't have any extra, mostly due to a drought in my area for a couple of months.
I'm hoping for a "normal" rainfall period this growing season. I'd love to get some nice tomatoes. I'm going to start/try some Roma tomatoes this year too. Homemade sauce sounds good. Cheers |
