Electric PTO

So I've read that you can replace the bearing on an electric PTO, but what about the coil? Mine is destroyed.

A good place to start is partstree. You can get the part number you need from there, then use those in search to find the best price.

It's probably going to be cheaper just to buy another PTO and a lot less headaches.

Depends on what kind of shape the rest of the clutch is in. For my 1872 on partstree, the entire assembly is about $300 more than the field by it's self.

It's possible to rewind it...I've seen it done. I have yet to try it though.

You might try the Sponsors at the top of the page and see if they have a good used one.

I was happy to find that they do sell just the field coil. Its still pricy at around $180 but it sure beats over $500 for the whole new assembly.

My next question: I know there should be a fuse somewhere, that spot was bypassed on this tractor, im guessing the wire leading to the pto should be fused?

Thanks for all your help guys

In looking at your original post, you make NO mention on the model of tractor you are working on.

In general, there usually a 10A fuse in the PTO circuit.

Use the part number you found and enter it on any search engine (or directly in the address bar), it takes a little time to sift through the results, but it payed off for me when I needed a new armature, saved over 40 bucks.

Why don't you look for a used pto. You should be able to pick one up for $75 or less.
