Engine fit question
Does anybody know if a 1982 K321AS is a direct fit for a Cub 129? For some reason I was thinking there were issues with the starter hitting the frame.

Further to explain my question. Ive got a 129 with bad engine bought really cheap. Ive found a wheel horse with a good 14hp kohler I can pick up for $250. I was thinking I could buy the WH pull the engine and then sell the left overs and be in the 129 really cheap. That is if the engine will be an easy fit.

As an educated guess, the WH engine will not be a direct fit. There will be some modifications.

Roland I spent a little time trying to research it out but Im finding mixed info. The Kohler page doesn't list separate engines for Cubs and WH. I havent been able to locate shaft diameters to see how they compare. I know just from looking the WH version would have to have the drive shaft connector,PTO and muffler but in theory those could be pulled from the bad engine. I found an article that said the K321AS would fit the Cub only the wiring harness would have to be changed due the starter set up. I have 2 wiring harnesses that would work for that issue. But Im like you an educated guess makes me what modifications would be necessary. Might be more cost effective to rebuild the 12hp if its good enough to.

Well I answered my own question finally. I re worded my google search and found link that clearly shows the difference in blocks per OEM. Cub has a completely different base on their block as compared to JD/WH or Case. So that idea is out the window. Back to square one.
