I am new to site.
I started this for a friend at work. He blew a rod in the M-18. We could not find another M-18 so are going with a CH-18. I have gotten as far as getting the engine setting where it needs to be and bolted. The PTO lined up and hooked up. Now I need to find out what models this engine was used on, as the wiring is different. The M-18 only had three wires to the tractor with a three slot connecter, the CH-18 has six, with a five slot connecter. the guy I got the engine didn't know what model cub it came off but 100% sure it's off a Cub. |
The Kohler CH-18 was used in Cub models 1863 & 1864

Yep, I spend way too much time here. One of these days I need to get a life. LOL. Should be an easy swap for you. I did the same thing with an 1882 and a new CH22. Biggest PITA issues are the drive shaft, muffler and heat shields. Holler if you need help. Mac |

Compare your PTO pulley size on the new engine vs the old.

The pto is off the m18. Bolted right up to the ch18. As Sam said the pita is the driveshaft and exhaust. the ch18 sits about 2"s forward more than the m18 did. The 1862 shaft is now that much short, also making less room up front for the muffler. May just stack it as the owner has cracked the plastic sidecovers right where they snap into the grill support, so they flop. Dave the owner only paid 400.00 for it. I've told him a number of times to take care of it. That he was sitting on a $1200 to $1500 tractor. Some people just don't care. As long as he's willing to pay I'll fix it. I ain't doing this one as a freebie.
