982 rear pto chipper

5 Attachment(s)
A couple years ago i got a hold of a chipper off a Jacobson and I modified it to fit the three point on my 982. My problem is finding a pto shaft that fits the tractor, any ideas on these 2000 rpm pto's ? :coffee:

The guy I got my CC rear bush hog mower had to buy a new shaft because his was missing. He got it from a hardware that specialized in hard to find parts. You will need a male splinned yoke to fit into the female part on the tractor. I thought all 2000 rpm cat 0 shafts are the same, so another color of green or red may work. Nice 982!

Just my 2 cents but I doubt that the rear PTO is strong enough to handle the chipper. I’m afraid you may damage the drive live. If it was me I’d fab up a mount to run it from the front of the tractor off the engine PTO.

I Agree

I agree with Sam Mac. Just not worth taking a chance. If you hook up to front pto and theres a problem, the belts will give. Cub cadet has them that work this way, would follow their design.

There are belts in the rear pto so if it was to jam the belts would slip to protect it.

As far as that big of a load ...I would not hesitate as a 48" tiller running deep delivers a heavy load and nothing has broken on mine. Yet!

I believe Baum Hydraulics has the right splined shaft . If your able to find a u-joint and pto shaft you can make your own. www.baumhydraulics.com or Mc Master -carr may have the shaft also. I have found it in a couple places some are pricey some are not. :beerchug:

They are not a chipper, but more of a hammer mill designed for leaf/small twigs, never liked mine so I gave it away.

Is the chipper designed for a 540 or 2000 rpm pto system? The chipper could self destruct if the system is designed for 540 system running on a 2000 rpm system.

Merk makes a good point. If it’s a 540 RPM chipper run at 2000 it could also come apart and kill you.
