Snow Thrower belts
 

Ok,so I took apart my CW-36 to restore it and I got it all put back together but now im having issues with the belt coming off. I had found that the sheave or pulley as most call it was backwards. I switched it around an it seemed to help but it still threw off the belt. It only did it when I hit a huge pile of wet snow so im thinking it threw the belt because of that...I havent had a chance to use it since I put the belt back on...anyone else have problems like this,and if so did you figure out why? I did take a straight edge an put it by the belt between the pulleys ...it seemed to be aligned...

The only issues that come to mind are misaligned sheaves which you have already checked with a straight edge or the belt is the wrong width.

Yes,I had went an bought a new belt an al they had in stock was a V ribbed belt. I ended up putting my old one back on an I think I need to go find a new belt like what I have...

I had a belt once (Off brand) that I used on my mower deck. It jumped off and I guess that during that process, the belt internally (cords) was damaged. It looked OK, but from that point on, I couldn't keep that belt on the pulleys for more than 5 minutes. I ended up replacing the belt again, and all has been well since.

I would suggest you use the proper IH-487043-R1 Belt. It is made for the Horse Power and Torque in this application

Ty,I actually just ordered one yesterday so id have a new one. The belt thats on it now is an old one but an IH belt. I am going to test it out some tomorrow an clean a few of the walks here in the neighborhood an see how its working now :)

Make sure the belt is real tight as well. In the IH manual they say to tighten the belt so there is a 1/4" of flex in the belt with 10lbs of pressure, and then crank the belt tensioner an extra turn.

But if your belt is worn or wrong width, it will be hard to get tight enough. Good luck.

OK ty, I made sure it was really tight,the adjustment plate is hard to push down and tighten, but at least I can get a prybar to hold it tight when I tighten it.

Is your adjuster broken?
