Tiller rebuild
I have a #2 tiller which is somewhat stiff to turn. It turns easily about 30 degrees (all shafts turn easily) then gets tight. I can turn it any amount, wherever it stops it will turn easily about 30 degrees.
I would like to disassemble and clean/grease/check it but have not been able to get the tubes with the times off the shafts. Any suggestions? I have soaked them with WD-40 and used a 2-jaw puller (using a 1" steel bar inside the tube so the puller pushes against the shaft). I also heated the tube with a propane torch. I am also wondering if I will be able to find any parts such as the housing gasket. I noticed there was another post about rebuilding a tiller in Aug but no responses. |
First off...WD40 is useless as a penetrant. Get some PB Blaster or Kroil and soak it. There's a big chain inside that case...I wonder if one of the links has rusted stuck. If the gasket is no longer available from CC, you could always get a roll of gasket material and make your own.

Thanks, I'll get some PB Blaster or Kroil and try that. As you noted I can make a gasket.
