782 deck
 

Some work continued today on the 782 deck The front roller holder was pretty egg shaped so I had an idea:biggrin2:
Welded a washer on the outside and filled in the inside gap with weld and filled it round again. Next I built a new pin because you can clearly see it was in need of some attention also.
Took some round stock I had around and cut it to length, then welded two washers on the one end. Just need to drill a hole on the end yet and good to go.
Needless to say, it's good and tight now. Still need to straiten the front of the deck where it's pushed in. Then sand blast and new paint.
Also have a question regarding the deck. My tag reads, MODEL# 44" Deck 35819x 44C
Ok, when I looked this up on Part Tree for the 782 tractor, the picture shows the deck should have wheels at all four corners. Mine just has them on the rear corners. ?

Not all 44C & 50C mower decks had front gauge wheels. CPE-2B shows only rear wheels. At some point in the production of this series of decks, front wheels were introduced. That series of deck ran from the IH days in 1979 to the CCC Days until 1985. I have a 44C and 50C and they both have front wheels.

I think those front wheels were a CCC addition.

Thank you gentlemen! I just didn't now, because my 782 was built in early 81 (CCC) and by the Parts Tree it showed front deck wheels. And mine don't.

Did a little to the 44C deck today.
Idler arm assembly and shoulder bolt were seized together. So it went into the heat box and with a little persuasion it came apart.
It (idler arm) is somewhat rough inside. I used some emery cloth and cleaned it up inside where the shoulder bolt moves free. Do any of you think this will be ok, it's not sloppy loose or tight by any means. Or should I be on the lookout for a different one? Opon assembly, do you just grease it up and put it together? There is no grease zerk on the idler, and it's to thin to add one.
Also cleaned up the deck hangers and shot some primer on them. The deck will be taken into the sandbasters, to cold here for me to do it outside. (-3 right now)
One last thing. Is the paint color 935 for this deck?

Zippy1, That big shoulder bolt that holds the idler arm to the deck should have a zerk fitting on top. Maybe older ones did not have them but all the ones i have do or did have a fitting, some brake off. What i dont understand is why there is no hole in the sheet metal belt cover for this grease fitting.Looks great,maybe while u have the welder out u should strenthen the rear wheel bracket on the discharge side. and yes 935 is the right color.Dave

The newer version of that idler pivot bolt had a grease fitting, and I think they added a hole to access it in the deck cover at the same time. No reason you can't add one.

Got the lift frame sanded and painted along with the rear hangers and one pulley.
Started to get into the spindles. RUST! Seems I can't get the spindle cups off, so more PB and try them again tomorrow.
