I'm interested to see the replies on this. I was working on my QA42A today and was wondering the same thing.

Something I have done for years on sealed bearings is to inject grease under the seal with a small syringe.
If you are careful you don't hurt the seal and give many, many years of life to bearings.
Most bearings go bad from lack of lube and rust than they do from actual wear.
It takes some time to put grease into a syringe with my finger but it sure saves the bearings, especially when you figure down time @ critical planting/harvest time.
I have not found a sealed bearing I couldn’t grease.

original bearings in my blower are not typical sealed bearings
they are ball bearings sandwiched between two stamped
flanges. mine have 13 .375 dia. ball bearings.thought I had lost one
but found that both bearings have thirteen. perhaps the space is for
grease when originally assembled. flanges are hardened and too hard
to drill and tap for zerk fitting. will clean flanges and repack bearings
and reassemble. picture enclosed.

Thats the same exact bearings on my CW-36. I just took mine apart to clean it up and re-paint it last fall. I ordered new sealed up to date bearings for it and plan on putting them on come spring. I re-packed mine with grease too because I found the flanges were too hard to drill a hole in as well. Did yours have two rubber rings inside also ?

QA36 snow thrower

thanks for reply. how is your thrower working with the
repacked original bearings?

amy3588 02-01-2013 08:42 AM

It seems to be working great so far. We havent had any big snows since xmas though. I do plan on putting the new bearings on in the spring, but ill hold onto the original ones just in case.
