42" 440 tiller grease or oil?
 

I am replacing the top sprocket on my 42" 440 rear pto tiller. I am in need of info on what oils or grease to put back inthe side pan where the chain & sprockets are and the top gear box. Help???

Does anyone read these posts? I need some help!

I have been waiting to see post on this myself as I want to change the oil in my tiller . :beerchug:

Can't find any information on a "440" tiller.

Don't think a fellow could go wrong using 85w90 or 85 120 gear oil.
I've seen a lot of chain cases use that, over the years.

I know of a 308 42" PTO Tiller and a 442 40" PTO Tiller...
Could it be one of those you are referring to?

Mixture of John Deere corn header grease and gear oil works great, I use it on my big shredder gear boxes. I split 1 tube between 3 gear boxes, so judging by the size of my tiller gear box 1/4 tube of grease and top the rest with gear oil 80w 90

O before I forget again, a good hint on adding grease to the gear box is to use a ruber glove. Squeeze the grease into the glove, cut just a small hole in the tip of one finger then insert and squeeze. Btw the corn header grease is a lighter thinner grease and works great in these applications.

You do know you will be have bad luck for 7 years putting John Deere grease in a IH machine!!
I mean that is like killing wood chucks in pennsylvania soy bean fields.
It is prohibited as they might be Puxy Phil's relatives , 20 years of global cooling will result,
and Hell will freeze over! Ha,LOL!

Ya well there are no IH dealers in the aria plus as a farmer all my stuff is Deere and so I use Deere products, say what you want but other than packaging there is no difference, no curses no vodo hex for crossing brands, just grease
