Kubota diesels
 

I was talking with someone today who had a 1772, hated it and got rid of it. He said that Cub Cadet contracted with Kubota for the engines and the Cub Cadet Kubota engines are inferior to Kubota engines you see on a Kubota tractor.

This didn't make any sense to me at all.

Is there any truth to this or has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Something about plastic gears instead of steel.

I hope I am not starting a bad rumor about the Kubota motors! I have never heard anything but great things about the folks on the forum that have these tractors.

Kubota engines are probably the best engines ever put in a Cub.

I have one never had a problem with it yet.

I doubt that what you heard is correct, because I had an 80's vintage Kubota garden tractor that had the exact same engine as my Cub cadet 882.

I work for a Japanese company and that makes no sense at all. They would not have a separate process to make a engine that was inferior. Mine (1572) is 26 years old and has 1650 hours or so and runs as good as when I got it. (1998 with 1100 hours)

Probably not the diesel, some water cooled Kawasaki gas engines had plastic cam gears. Mike

I've NEVER heard of a Kubota diesel in a cub having any gear issues, only thing I've heard of is some people have had overheating problems, but I've worked my 1782 pretty hard and haven't had ANY issues. Not to say there arnt some out there with some trouble, but like Sam said, it's the best engine put in a cub:beerchug:

I agree with the others. The Kubota's were the best engines ever put in Cubs and the Kawi's did have a problem with the FD620's cam gear. Even with the cam gear problem it is still a better engine than an air cooled one. I bet that fella that said that drives a green tractor.:biggrin2:

Kubota's are one one of the toughest engines out there, we have two bobcats and a roller at work with Kubota's in them. they take ridiculous amounts of abuse. from wide open 20 degree cold starts to 100 degree summer days where the cooling system cant keep up, these engine keep on running. the roller we have has the D600 in it, its got 4200 hours on it. only thing that's ever been done was the alternator. Im a Kubota believer all they way. now i just need one of my own...hopefully in a 1772
