Gear box lube

What lube is specified in a snowthrower gear box?

cubby102 02-20-2013 09:53 AM

I put in wheel bearing grease (high temp abs rated) seems to be working fine

Thanks, cubby.

If the seals are good you can use 85W90 gear lube ( car truck rear end lube)
If they leak, you can use light chassis grease.
Some ppl mix the 2 together, all with good results.

Thx ol'George.

MY 450 snowblower specs some kind of plasticlube if I remember correctly. Has anyone ever tried to use CV joint grease. That stuff is pretty sweet. not real heavy but sticks to everything. I have plenty of that with moly graph in it.

This chart is based on the IH Operator's Manuals....

What about a Synthetic 90W - good at lower temp.

You can put in whatever you want. It is your tractor. The chart is what is recommended. It's your choice to follow it or not.

CV joint grease

I was wondering the same thing.
