k241 question
Hey guys I have a k241 that is smoking. I am very new to engine work, I usually get someone else to do that. I want to start getting some experience working on them. I got some telescoping gauges and I have a Caliper. The bore at the widest point measured 3.268. Where do I go from here. Keep in mind I am new at this, I want to learn and I have access to about anything that I would need to do the job. If I need a machine shop I know someone.
Thanks!! |
3.254 is the max wear for std. size. you are .014 over. Depending on what the out of round was (difference in 2 measurements 90 degrees to each other) youll need to go at least .020 over. You are for sure going to need the machine shop so id take it there have them measure it and tell you if you need .020 or .030. My guess is its not much more than .003-.004 out of round so worst case youd be at .018 and a .020 would still do it.
So you are going to need a new piston, rings, gasket set, and connecting rod. You need to measure the crank too to see if its worn as you may need a .010 undersized crank and have that ground down at the machine shop. My guess is you are going to have about $100-$150 in machine work and another $150-200 in parts to do it right. |
Ok, Thanks. Now I have another question. I found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Rebui...item20cfc7b8fa
What do you think? |
Caliper is not accurate way to measure . Go to a machine shop it is free.
