Hmm...

I was wondering if the 42" deck off my narrow frame will work with a 1782? I am getting a 1782 but the deck bearings are toast so I need a deck until I can get the bearings replaced...

As a direct fit.......NO. If you want to fabricate something, then it is possible.

It's actually an 1863 but I believe this statement stands true.
