Thinking of a trade
I've been advertising the snowblower attachment I got with the 1210 I bought in Jan.
I have a prospective buyer, and he maybe interested in a swap of tractors, along with snowblower . My 1210, deck and blower for a 125 and deck, reportedly complete, and good strong engine. The 1210 engines starts and runs great, but blows exhaust smoke like murder. May need a complete engine build, or, if it's like the rest of the tractor, improper assembly by PO, and new rings may be all it needs. It has been apart. The snowblower is missing some attachment pieces. The main thing being the driveshaft. The Mule assembly is there. Questions: Is this a good swap?? Should money change hands?? Anything I should look for??? NOTE: there are pics of both in my album. |
I would say that it is probably an ok trade as long as the 125 appeals to you. I personally am partial to the NF tractors. I also don't have experience with a tractor like the 1210 so others' opinions are probably worth more than mine.
One thing I would check is the wear on the mule drive on the 125. I have one where the pulley hangers have bit into their mounting rod and thus they are angled a little but funny. http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17452 Of course it can be fixed but it is just another project. |
Ok, will look for that. I do have welders and metal cutting equipment here. Fabricating may not be that big a deal.
I prefer the wide frame. But have two more of those, so a NF, might fit in well. Thanks. |
I am slightly more partial to WF Cubs, in that, they are easier to work on.

Me too Roland. But????
And the 125 could be near 20 years older, I don't have the numbers. Not necessarily a bad thing. |
Sounds like a pretty fair trade to me. 12hp hydro for a 12hp hydro. A 125 is a great tractor, especially if it is mechanically sound (but, you can say that for anything).

Pretty much a coin flip......
I'm with Roland and am partial to wideframes. I guess if you get a nice running 125 for a smoking 1210 and you both are happy, it's a good trade. Good luck. |
Normally I say: Go for the one with the best engine in it. If the 125 has a good sound non-smoking engine in it, it is probably the better deal. Everything else will fix cheap enough.
But here we're looking at a 20+ year difference in age, that has to account for something. I think I would try to lean on the guy a little, and see if you can get $50.00 or $100.00 out of him. If not, trade anyway... If you don't want/need the gearbox on the back of the 125, you can get pretty good money out of it, see if he has the long belt for it, that will make selling the gear box a little sweeter for the buyer. |
Trade a CCC 1210 for a IH 125? No brainier IMO. I am partial to the narrow frames, and the 125 is my second favorite Cub. They aren't really that much of a pita to work on.
