149 Drive Shaft Pin
 

I ordered a new drive shaft for my 149 with a new pin, it came with pin installed and, for the life of me without getting carried away, I can't remove it to install the cooling fan for the hydro, any suggestions?

get roll pin punches, put it in a vise, and smack the crap out of it.

I was worried about smacking it to hard, I'll get right on that though, I knew it was a tight fit but didn't know it was as tight as it was. I'm actually quite surprised, the old pin had worked itself out and ended up trashing the drive hub and shaft. I'm glad that it is as tight as it is, does anyone set these with a loctite or any other product to prevent backing out or is just friction between the two enough.

That pin is not a spiral pin it is a hardened steel pin, no need for roll pin punches...

I usually close the vice enough to lay the shaft on top of the jaws and let one end of the pin go down between them (the jaws) then smack the other end of the pin with a good heavy hammer.

Don't forget to wear your safety glasses!!!

One you get it out and are ready to reinstall try putting the pin in the freezer for. Bit and heat the shaff up a little. Then once that's done slide the pin it. Might make it a little easier

Success! I'll have the tractor running tomorrow, break in the rebuild, rototilling and mowing!

COOL, nothing like a happy ending! Run it hard to break it in and give it an early oil change and she should give you many years of service. :beerchug:
