Well... where to begin...

Hey. My name is Dave. I have been a long time lurker, first time poster, as they say. I'm hoping to use this forum as another essential tool in the ol' box --- maybe pitch in my .02 when it seems appropriate. Seeing as you all are the experts, though, I don't think I'll be spending those pennies anytime soon.
So, spring's finally sprung here in northern MN, and yesterday I took the Cub out of the shed. Back story is as follows: I bought this old unit last spring as a father/son sorta 'restoration' project. As it turns out, we used the ole girl for much of the summer and didn't really get around to starting the project... so this year is the year! Hmmmm... looking back on that, doesn't really seem like a 'back story', per se. Nor a front story. It's really not a story at all, just a lame anecdote. But I digress. What we purchased was a Cub 100 with a mower deck. There was issues with the starter/generator, so the previous owner was ready to move on. I'm an electrician, so this didn't scare me none. 200$ and a trailer ride later, my boy and me have our project. I have some basic questions regarding paint and belts for you folks --- probably some other stuff, too --- but I'll ask those under the forum headings that address those issues. Until that time, I'll just say 'hi' and thanks for keeping this awesome resource viable. |

Nice looking 100! |
Welcome to OCC! Nice 100, you have there!
|
Well, i sure appreciate the hello's.
i do love the machine... fact is, i love all the old stuff. Spring is the also the time of the year to pull out the '79 CJ5 and the '64 Valiant. i wish modern vehicles were as easy to work on! |
Welcome to OCC! You will find many people on here have 100's as well as other tractors. There is much experience here, so, if you have a question, just asK!
|
Thank you, cubfixer. Believe me, i have some questions... i just have to look for the appropriate threads in which to post.

Hello Dakemp!
I'll just add one more welcome to OCC~ I am from northwestern Minnesota as well, and am happy to learn that there is one more Cubber among us in the Northstar State. Cub Cadets from IH are not that plentiful around here and I am happy to see such a nice 100 being preserved by you. Good luck with your machine, and there are lots of questions to be answered here. Please don't be afraid to ask and comment. |

Nice!! How old is your boy? Any age is nice for a son to work w/ his dad!!

Mouse, he's 12. Loves things like 4 wheeling, guns and cars --- but has no real desire to maintain those things. So i figgered: what the heck? This older stuff is so simple and nice to work on, maybe i can pass that on.
Thanks again to everyone who's responded --- and even those who haven't. It seems like you've got a nice group here. It'll be a pleasure to pick your collective brains and share where i can. @ bkw3614: yep, good to see another Minnesotan. i'm from the Arrowhead, myself, on the Iron Range. Any older Cub i come across is pretty well roached, so i consider myself lucky for finding one that runs as well as it does... |
