Picked up a 124
4 Attachment(s)
Picked this old boy up yesterday from a fella for $50 bucks. Looks rough without tires but it's actually in descent condition. The only thing that I can see missing is the seat and grill. I took the head off first thing to check it all out and scrub off the carbon. It looked good. The starter generator was junk so I put a spare on that I had but it spins the opposite direction so no go. It's got spark so it should go. I have a couple questions. The wiring all looks good but there is no key. Are these keys all one of a kind or do I need to change the ignition? The other question is can I send off the good starter generator and have it made to turn the opposite direction? Well another Cub saved. :biggrin2:

A little typo. It is a 124. Sorry about that.

Oh those leaky batteries. Make sure you neutralize that acid, and nice save.

Thanks for fixing that for me.

I am pretty sure a generator shop can fix the your clockwise starter to a counterclockwise starter, but I would get the original starter fixed. Its probably the same money. I suspect the armature is wound different for the CCW vs. the CW.
I think all 124 keys are the same (even though thy are cut different). I bought a couple off fleabay (don't buy them from fleabay: the keys are reasonable, but they screw you with handling and shipping charges!). Your CC dealer may have one in stock. If you can't get one cheap, I will send you one. |
Thanks for the reply. I called my local starter/ alternator shop and he quoted me $100 dollars to change the rotation. I got it running today with a battery and coil. Runs very well. I am uploading a video on ebay as I type. It will be under rdmanone. :biggrin2:
