opinions on a possible sears buy..

so since my 1650 doesn't need anything...im looking for an "inexpensive" resto project ...a friend has a 69 sears suburban 12 (don't think its a super), but it is blue w hubcaps)...he has a replacement 10hp engine for it as the 12 was taken out after blowing up...rusty, but all seems to be there...no attachments other than the 3 point system out back....he wants $60 for the parts he recently bought for it....

don't know anything about the old ss tractors...
should I stray from the IH fold a little?

They are very nice machines. I would go for it.

It's hard to get burned on a $60 investment and the Suburban's are quite popular. A guy at work repowered one with one of the HF motors on the cheap and he loves it.

There's a Simpie sitting down the road from me that the owners have been mowing around for a year or better... I'm having the same thoughts as you, but I'd like to turn some cash on it. ;)

Had a couple and loved em both. They are solid a a good tractor for belt drive. Only problem could be with a Tecumpseh engine. The ignition can be a real bear if it goes, they are very hard to replace. I sold my last one after stripping almost any good parts for $35. Id jump on one for $60.

yea the tecumseh engines on those tractors were JUNK. if your lucky enough to find one with the briggs and stratton monsters then itd be worth getting. or even the big old Onans even though im not a fan of those either. too bad they didn't have Kohlers in them. they would be a beast of a tractor

$60 aint a bad price. those sears tractors are quite collectable. attachments for them are EVERYWHERE
