KT17 coil
Been having issues with my KT17 II. The other week it would not start after mowing. But was okay after it sat for a day. So I check for spark and had none. replaces the points and condenser. Now it has no power when it gets hot. And will not restart. Let cool and tried a restart to check timing with a timing light and the coil was hot to the touch after cranking. Coil reads 4.5ohm between the + and -. And 10.1 on the high tension leads. I suspect a bad coil(which is a ea$y fix) Any other ideas?

When the tractor dies.........re-check the resistance on the Ignition Coil and see if it is out of spec.

has anybody tried them? |
Not enough information in the posting to determine if it is applicable.
If you have determined that Ignition Coil is bad, there are three choices. (A) Obtain the proper Kohler replacement, or (B) obtain this coil..... Coil, or (C) take your chances with some other aftermarket coil. |
that coil should work with no problems. its a 5 ohm. it may have a hotter spark but they don't go into that . mounting would probably be different. We started using early model Harley Sportster point ignition coils on them about 10 years ago because the KT coils were so expensive and not exactly reliable. they required different mounting to and work out very well.

Looks like you could take the bracket off and slide it in where the old kohler coil was OD is the same at 2 inches I found an old Sportster coil in my Harley stuff (similair in shape to the one Kirk sells) and hooked it up to test and the engine fired right up, I timed the motor with a light and am going to order a new coil. |
