What's up with NAPA?
I saw that Sam got 2 head gaskets for a Mag engine for around $20 at NAPA and I figured that was a good deal so I ordered two from my local NAPA. I remember the guy saying they were just under $10 each plus shipping that shouldn't be more than a few bucks. He said he would call when they came in but he never did but I worked near them today and stopped in. I told the lady at the counter I was there to pick up my parts and they hand me 1 gasket that looked like it was damaged. I told her to just order me another and call when it comes in. When I got out to the truck I looked at my receipt and noticed they charged me $20 for one gasket.:bash2: At this point I'm pretty ticked off and walk back in the store and asked the guy why was it so much, I thought I paid for two. He couldn't even look it up on the computer why it was that much and the lady said the shipping was like $9.00. I told them to cancel the other order and I won't buy anything else from them. Now when I go to that store online the price for part # 5204120s is $20 but if I type in another location it comes up a little over $10. What is up with this sorry place? Is that how NAPA works? I'm thinking about making a complaint.

Yea, our local NAPA has ALWAYS been like that, ride you for every nickel they can get.
I shopped at the one that supplied my business, they would give me the business discount. Otherwise, they charge you the "Barefoot Pilgrim" price. That NAPA closed. None of the others offer discount without I.D.. :bigthink: I am DONE with NAPA. Maybe, if I visit Galax,,,,,,,,,,,, :biggrin2: |
I'm just trying to help out the local people....guess I should of got it online.

I paid $9.00 ea for the Kohler head gaskets for the Mag 18 at the NAPA in Galax VA. Ordered them about 9ish and had them at 2:00 PM the same day. No extra for shipping OEM Kohler parts. :bigthink: |
The NAPA I use doesn't charge me anything for shipping. If I call or stop in to get a part and they don't have it they order it and it arrives overnight, I stop in the next morning and pick up my parts, no added fees for shipping.

If they order from the local warehouse there is no shipping charge because there truck goes and picks up, but sounds like it was only available from another Napa stores stock and ordered it from them, which they ship UPS, etc. The store they get it from wants a jobber price as they pay taxes on stock it 4 times a year.
Most auto dealers have gone to competition prices jobber = cost + 60-75 % list = cost plus 100% comp = cost plus 140 % |
Sorry to hear that, Todd. We ordered some wheel bearings for the 1872 today. Supposed to pick them up tomorrow. Hope NAPA doesn't mess up our order.

Here locally, NAPA isn't the cheapest Auto Parts Supplier, BUT..............the most knowledgeable, most friendly, and most accommodating. For me, it is worth it to pay slightly more for good customer service.

I normally buy from my local "Mom & Pop" shop and that is how they are too. They greet me by name, are very friendly and I know that they need to make a profit on what they sell so most times I don't even ask how much the part is if I "must" have it. They just started selling small engine parts a year ago and sometimes have a problem getting some things and that is why I went to NAPA. I don't like using big chain stores for anything and I don't mind if I pay a little extra to help out the local guy. I made a complaint on their web site and I will let you all know how it turns out.
