Belt number or belt size
 

I finally got my PTO working on my 1450 hooked up to a QA36A. Now, I think my belt is worn out, plus a see a split starting in it. I don't think I am able to get it tight enough because when I hit a snow pile with it, the auger stops.

What is the part number, or size belt I need?

IH-55053-C1 from a Cub Cadet dealer. Don't bother with any other type/brand of belt, as only the CC belt will hold up in this application in my experience. BTDT, shredded more than one Gates green belt....

I'm not a big fan of my local cub cadet dealer. They have pretty poor service. My local JD dealer is full of good people. I wonder if they make an equivalent belt for a JD

Probably not. And I'll say it again, that's the one and only belt that's designed for this application. Don't waste your money on anything else. If you don't like your local CC dealer, this forum has sponsors that should have the belt.

So what are you saying? If you go to a smaller pulley as Charlie describes you are s@rewed? I cant believe only the stock length Cub belt will handle the blower application. I would guess they are made by a manufacturer who makes belts under a different name brand. Not trying to start an argument just curious. What makes the Cub branded belt any different than a heavy duty brand x belt?

Smoker62: It's called made to specification!! If it costs the belt manufacturer more to make a belt to an OEM specification, then you ain't gonna find 'em blowing their profit margins putting that specification in their generic belts... That's basically why.

So, now that I have a smaller pulley on my thrower and need to find a belt that fits , which I did, I may as well buy a dozen. I wonder what belt one of the sources here sells after he sells the smaller speed up pulley. I have to think there are other belts out there made to the heavy duty standards as the cub belt.He would probably have some unhappy customers if he is selling these shredding belts. We run some belts on our equipment at work that are about as heavy duty as you can get.Certainly more abuse than the thrower belts. Cost a bundle also and available in the 29" length needed. I will see how long one lasts with the 3.5" pulley and report back . It should get well abused here in WI. sooner or later. I also said "Heavy Duty" not generic brand x. :bigthink: Just thinking of the guys who are running the smaller pulleys. I am sure they will be interested in this conversation. Maybe some will post of the durability of the belts they have been running. Unless Cub makes the longer belts , then this is a mute point.

If you have a smaller pulley, you're going to need a shorter belt, not a longer one.

I really don't see the need for the speed-up pulley...the thrower works just fine at the speed it was originally designed for, and throws snow plenty far if it's in good shape and has slip-plate on the chute. I just need to get the snow out of the driveway; it doesn't need to go on the roof of the neighbor's house. There will be less contact area on the smaller pulley, so it's REALLY going to need a good belt. The IH belts are toothed and are a 'sticky' yet hard rubber compound that lasts a long time. The tension required to keep the belt from slipping is a bit ridiculous, and I don't think most belts can handle the combination of high tension and heat. The Gates green belts are very strong and are great for mower belts, but they will not last at all for this. I have violently shredded two of those with my 782/QA-36A blowing the wet cement snowfalls that we sometimes get here. When I had my thrower on my 1450, I finally broke the (presumably) original 30+ year old belt.


Here's another tip...mark the direction of rotation when you install a new belt, and always install it going the same direction. It should last longer that way.

I stand corrected Matt. You are correct , shorter belt not longer. I have not used the thrower with the standard size pulley so I can not make a comparison.I did need a new pulley after I purchased this thrower and had broke the stocker tryingto get it off. I figured what the heck, can never blow snow to far. I always have to modify everything I own. Exspensive bad habbit usually too. Good explanation though, I liked mucho better.:High5:

What I have been told by my local Cub dealer Is that IH Cub belts have a 23 degree angle on the V. Dont quote me on this angle but I believe that is what he told me. What this means is all other pullies have a different angle and only Cub belts will have the proper surface contact and pulley depth on a stock cub pulley. We were dealing with a tiller at the time but both attachments run off of the PTO Pulley so I assume this goes for all attachments.
