Probably the dumbest question ever!
Ok. Im a dumb a$$ on this one!! I removed the blades from my 1200's deck to repair deck, paint, sharpen blades, etc. Now I cannot remember which way the blades go back on. With the deck flipped over and looking down at the blades, in which direction should the "shiny/sharpened" side of the blades face. Should the sharpened side be looking at you or away from you? I dont have motor in tractor yet to know which way the pto turns (correctly) to get blade directional spin and figure it out. And I do not want to remount the deck when the time comes and then have to remove it again to flip the blades. If you have a picture of yours, from any angle, on or off tractor that would help.
Thanks. Sorry for being so dumb!!! Just dont want to do something twice. John |
Your blade should have some sort of a wing on it- that goes up.

Sharp side down. Trust me you are not the first to have this issue. Pic is of a 60" Haban I bought a while ago, owner didn't like the way it cut. LMAO:biggrin2:

I think there are a lot of people who get confused regarding the direction of the blades. I worked at a place one time where there was a lot of grass to cut and most of the guys there didn't know what direction the blades went. The answer is Yes, the wind wing always goes up. |

that brings a funny one to mind I had a guy buy a yellow 782 from me with 46in deck and bagger get a call says it wont bag and he tried every thing including sharpen blades so finally I had him bring the deck back to me and here the blades were upside down and when he sharped them he put them the way they were and the only way we knew they were wrong because I had another deck which had the blades right if that deck would have been wrong prolly would have got the whole rig back but it mowed like a dream and he was happy so dumb ? I don't think so every body has to learn I still learn about cubs yet

I tought most blades on the newer cubs where stamped with 'bottom side" on the blade.
Well at least the ones on my 3235 are that way and on my mom's LT1042.:bigthink: |
Thanks guys!!! When i took them off i sat them in the correct direction but then i took them to my father in law to sharpen and forgot what direction they went. silly me!!
Thanks again!!!! I always ask the pros first!! |
As with most things if you study them and then look at what they do you can generally get it right. When you think about it the sharp edge has to be on the down/bottom side or it will not cut. Having spent my life in aviation however has taught me that if something can be put on wrong it will. Boeing made many parts that were purposely made to fit one way only but creative mechanics found clever ways to bend, twist or modify them to install them wrong. There are times however where things like special washers go in a certain order that no amount of logic will determine the correct order. I believe we have all made mistakes on our Cubs so it's great to see another owner make them too!:beerchug:
