New to Cub Cadets, Forum

So just recently I sold my John Deere 312 44" cut and my Craftsman 36" cut Rider and purchased a 1995 Cub Cadet 1440 with a 14hp Brigs Vanguard V-twin that ran perfect for the start of this summer. Two weeks ago an electrical short with lots of smoke come out under the hood. After a further investigation, found the wire harness was melted under where the batter sits. Last week I got a new wire harness in and hooked it all up and had no fire to the motor so I purchased a new magneto, two armatures and starter. Its getting plenty of fuel and the motor cranks over smoothly. Can anyone help me in a wire diagram or photos of the motor where everything hooks up. I have a yellow wire near the starter unhooked as well I don't know where the black wire goes from the two armatures. Also there are three red wires near the starter that are hot when key is on. Ive looked all over this forum and net for a wire diagram and manual with no luck. Im not use to cub cadets yet.. Found a lot of great info on this forum, thanks admin for this site.

Well, to start off,

:Welcome2:

The site is a little short on newer Cub Cadet wiring diagrams, so you probably did not miss it, I could not find one for my 2284.:bigthink:

Somebody will be along with the reason for those wires being there!! :biggrin2:

Take a look at the Flash drive I gave you with the 2284, it has the wiring for the 2284 on it :biggrin2:

1440

Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you the wiring diagram for a 1641, wiring should be the same as the 1440.

Welcome to OCC:beerchug:

Hey thanks to all for the above info. I have looked at the diagram that was sent to me and traced every wire after removing the engine for the 3rd time off frame. I rechecked everything twice and covered all the wires back up and placed the motor back in and well, I still have no fire. Im so lost on why its not working. Motor runs fine or well did before I decided to replace the stator and armaters.

I did find the wire on the armatures was bad so I replaced it. That is a ground wire or at least I hope since I hooked it up back where it was with the yellow wire(kill wire) as im reading. Any other help or ideas?

Pull the Yellow Wire off the M terminal of the ignition switch and see if it starts.
