128 in New Freedom PA
 

Greetings from New Freedom PA.

I have rescued a 128 from the dead and I have brought her back to life to mow again.

I was given the 128 for some block laying and told I could have it for free if I could make it run.

24 years in the Seabees taught me a thing or 2 about making due with what you got.

Ive got the carb sorted out, but the overheating issues have me stumped. My gas tank sounds like a steam kettle after 30 minutes of mowing.

I'll keep plugging away.

Over heating
 

You could check the shrouds. Sometimes critters find it a great place to camp/nest causing air flow to come to a halt.

My 100 would boil the gas in the gas tank. I would check the timing by checking the points gap, and I would check for air flow through the head and jug. No air flow, then you probably have trash packed around the jug, maybe from critters or from years of grass collecting between the fins. It wouldn't hurt to take the tins off and give the fins a good cleaning. Sometimes critters will build a nest in the blower housing.

Cooling
 

I've checked the fins and have had all the tins off. All is clear. I think I am missing a plate of metal that goes over the front of the motor to the grill . Would this have anything to do with the cooling ???

Thanks to today's technology I turned my small lap top upside down :) and notice that you may have several of the heat shields missing. Or maybe this was a picture where you had them removed? So that could be causing some heat going up to the fuel tank area. Maybe you could find another parts tractor or get tins from someone on here to reduce the heat problem.
