Cub Cadet 129 .... Where? MY TRUCK!!
I found a Craigslist ad online today. Look what happened:
http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps7b2965f4.jpg Missing hood, nose cone, lights, and coil with spark plug wire. Will need a new deck belt, oil change, carb cleaner, new rubber on front and probably a new deck belt. How does it look? What do you all think about it? How does it sound that I picked this up for under triple figures. <$XXX :) |
Under triple figures? I would have done it, too. If nothing else, it'll pay for itself in parts in no time. Good pick! :beerchug:
|
Congrats on your 129! Good luck with it.

Looks great. A few parts and it will be good as new :beerchug:

Congrats on the 129!
Looks good! |
So a little bit of a quick update. Got the old batt out. Got the old spark plug out and sized up for a new one. Ran to fleet farm to look for coil, spark plug, spark plug wire, and batt. got back and put the coil in, and hooked up a batt and she turns over great! put the new spark plug in and made a new spark plug wire, and tested for spark and she was sparking good. (This makes me assume a tractor coil for IH works on the cub cadets?) Put a little carb cleaner in the carb and it started turning over even better!!
put a little gas in the tank and found some leaks in the fuel line (simple fix) but when I was turning it over every probably 10 to 15 seconds it would give a great big loud POP out the exhaust pipe. (I only did this three times before coming in to ask here) Can someone tell me what this is doing and how to fix it? Thanks for the info! |
Your coil needs to be a 12 volt internal resistor style. The coil you bought is probably meant to be used with an external resistor. You should probably check the points gap to make sure the ignition timing is close. The gap should be .020".

So did I damage anything with this coil? That would almost explain the loud bang when it finally did ignite with its full power...
|
Looks like you did just fine. You'll get lots of enjoyment bringing that one back! Wish I could find them that intact and for that kind of $$$.

So I took the carb off today because with the new fuel line, the carb was not pulling gas. So I took the carb off and noticed a rust puddle heading from carb into the engine, with no fuel moisture. So I have been cranking with no moisture going into engine... :bash2: Then I pulled the float bowl off the bottom of the carb and it was filled with a black thick sludge. I would assume this was made from the carb cleaner I sprayed along with the dried sludge that originally was in there.
Looks like I will be cleaning and rebuilding my first carb! Any manual or picture document on how to do it? Thanks for all your help all! The engine turns over great but I would assume the pops are from the carb cleaner exploding with no fuel to burn behind it. Because without spraying the carb cleaner it will just turn over with no pops. I am getting anxious to get this running and take it for a spin!!! |
