782 Cub Cadet overheating
I have a CCC model 782. It has the Kohler KT17 series II in it. It runs extremely hot....with steam and smoke coming from it eventually. I took all the shrouding off and it'd clean as can be....any ideas?

No oil leaks? Is the crankcase breather still attached to the air filter? What weight oil are you running?
|
no oil leaks. the hose is still connected to the air filter. and im running the cub cadet oil you buy from tsc. not sure what weight but it runs well in anything else i put it in. i forgot to mention, it doesn't like to idle. ive tried messing with the screws but nothing i try clears it up. could it possibly be out of time? runs perfect at 1/4 to full throttle. idle it just spits and sputters

Sounds like it is running lean. Your comment that it does not like to idle, points to this also. Look at the carb, and the connection to the intake.

My IH 782 with replacement KT17 II sometimes have faint smoke coming from the breather tube area. I only see it if I open the hood and look for it.
I wonder if this is the same thing that's happening to you. I can't tell if it's coming from where the breather tube goes into the engine or if it's coming from the jug/head area. It has done this with both 15w40 and 30WT Amsoil synthetic. The engine doesn't seem to be running hot or leaking oil/fuel. It also idles just fine. It has been doing this ever since I picked up the tractor this past winter. I've put around 20 hours on it. Chris |

well you can see heatwaves coming off of it when i run it for 10 minutes....something aint right if it gets THAT hot.
|
What are you using to measure the temp? I don't think seeing heat waves is telling you much, you can see heat waves off a driveway.
|
my hand. it seems like it runs wayyyy hotter than it should. oh well run it till it blows i guess. then the mag 18 or command swap.
