Garden plowing with a Cub
 

How many of you plow your garden with your cub. Does it matter if your use a cub with a manual transmission or a hydrostatic, and if so what are the advantages. thanks

No plowing here, just straight rototilling, and that works good for me. (although I would love to own a plow at some point)

10in plow and it works great but it really depends on your type of ground your plowing. breaking new ground can be tuff sometimes. get yurself a disc too. they are nice to use after plowing. wheel weights are a nice addition to garden chores also.

There are good and bad points plowing with a manual or hydro Cub Cadet. It is up to to the owner to deside. I rather plow with a manual transmission IH Cub Cadet. They have consistant wheel speed.

I do own a plow and a disk but have never used them, we till our garden.

I know there are those who do plow with a hydro but I'll bet that after a day of plowing, they know they have done a days work.

It is up to the individual, but I would think that a gear drive would be the way to go.

are you using the 147 mentioned in your sig?

I've never plowed with an IH cub, but I have plowed several times with my GT2544. The new hydros are nice because of the "cruise control". As others have said, just have plenty of weight to get all that power to pull the plow through the ground. I have both tires filled and 75lbs of additional wheel weights on each side.

Yup. Slow and steady with multiple passes does a great job. Gotta "let it eat." I've also used a 125 w/the same tiller and the application is the same. The only thing to watch out for is if you hit a root/stone and it stops the tines you gotta be on the PTO lever quick so you don't start burning up things. It doesn't happen often however.

I have both . I tillerd 46 gardens this spring and I will go back and fall plow most of the same gardens . If I'm plowing by myself I like a manul tranny , but a hydro works better at a plow day as you can ajust your ground speed easyer plowing with differnt size tractors . A 147 should pull a 10" plow just find even in hard plowing with plenty of wieght . Just have fun and use what you got til you see something you like better . You cant have to many cubs . :beerchug:

I have several plows and tillers, and several cubs, around 18-20 , every one of them is hydrostatic except for the last one I picked up (71) . So all I have used to plow with and till with r hydros. Works great for me. Gear drive is fine, I just prefer not to have to shift constantly, when mowing , blowing ,plowing snow . And u will never ruin a hydro drive train , simply from working it !
