Thinking Of Converting The 1872 To Non Power Steering
Guys, I'm thinking about getting rid of the power steering on my 1872 and make it like the 982. My 782 steers fine and I feel that the 1872 will also. Plus, I'll have no more pesky leaks to worry about. I've heard that I'll need to find a 982 steering column and front axle. What else would be needed? I feel that I'm better off getting rid of the power steering.

Allen, lets fix yours. I need to pull one of mine to rebuild so maybe I can swap with ya. I'll call ya tomorrow.

Allen , The last time i priced a steering column and just the steering arm/spindle , BIG $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ !!

Ceicil, isn't that like getting rid of your Johnson to keep from getting an STD? I added PS to my 1811 and cannot imagine going back to Popeye arms again. If you really want to do this I am sure there are a whole bunch of guys who are waiting to offer your their manual steering system in an exchange. I put mine in last year and have not had a leak since. Maybe you have some hose problems that could be solved for just a few hours work and a few dollars.:beerchug:

Allen,
Don't get rid of your power steering. You will be sorry you did. |
