? about "Super" wheels
 

I have a friend wanting rear wheels off of a Super Cub. He tells me the rim would be a 12x12. That is the size rim he wants...It really doesnt matter if they come off a Cub or not. I found some on Ebay but the seller lists them as 12x8.5. My question is...Is my friend right about the rim size coming off a Super or do we need to start over. I know the tire size on the supers are 26x12x12 which is the tire he has. He just wants a 12in wide rim. Any thoughts on where i can find one. The pair on Ebay says "Cub Cadet rear wheels Super fits 982 1872 2082 1782". Any guidance in this area would be great. Thanks

I just went through a similar exercise as I wanted to upgrade my 782D to 26X12-12 turfs. The stock rims I had were 8.5 wide with 3.75" back offset. The CC super wheels I researched were also 8.5 wide but with about a 1" offset. That 1" offset would make my overall width to wide to clear the rear guide wheels on my 44" deck. I ended up using JD 430 wheels 12X10.5 with a 4.5" offset making my overall width about 3" wider than stock. The biggest issue .... I had one heck of a time getting the tires to seat on a 10.5" rim. I would never have been able to install my tires on a 12" wide rim. Just my experience.

Just to reconfirm, the Cub Super rims are 8.5" wide.

Ok thanks guys. Does anyone know where you could find a 12x12 rim or even if one is made?

I've only heard of of guys making them, by cutting a rim open on a lathe, them adding steel, then welding the bead on.
12"x12" is a big rim.
Think about it, the largest steel wheels for autos are 8" wide.

Well, my friend decided he would have someone cut and weld on some rims to make them that 12" he wanted. Thanks for all the input. FYI, he is putting them on the back of his 582 with a creeper. Plans on putting a plow behind it when our club has a plow day!!

My freind owens a fab shop . I cut a 7 inch rim in half w/a skill saw w/ mettle blade . Then we cut a 12 ga flat stock 33 and 3/8 inches long and 10 inches wide and put it in the roller . once the circle is made it goes over the rim verse's it beaing on the rim . as you can see in the picture .

He really does't need to put those wheels on the back of a 582 to plow with. It will probably cause more problems that it will fix. 12" wide tires have a hard time fitting in the furrow unless the person in front of him is pulling a 12" plow cutting at full width. I plow with a 582, but mine has a Kohler Magnum 18 engine with a pulling tractor clutch. I can plow in 3rd gear at wide open throttle. I actually got told to slow down at the last plowday I was at. Btw, I'm running 23x8.5x12 Carlise Power Trac"s. I have a 982 with 26x12x12 goodyear ag's and my 582 will plow circles around it.

I'm with AJ...that 12" tire will never be in the furrow properly. Most people at Plowdays use a 10" plow. It's a good idea to use one size smaller tire than the width of the plow, i.e. 6-12 tires for an 8" plow, 23-8.50-12 tires for a 10" plow, and 23-10.5-12 tires for a 12" plow.

You don't need a 12 inch wide rim on a daily use Cub Cadet or a Cub Cadet that goes to plow days. 12 inch wide rims may be ok on a tire design for pulling.....best thing to do is check with a good tire dealer on what width rim to run.
