Non starting 682

Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, and have a new Cub for me, 682 series II, yeah the red ones. Had a 147 for a couple of years back in the 80's and have to admit my diagnostic skills are lacking. Bought this beautiful 682 with 1300 hrs on it, brought it home, all good, drove it around an mowed some grass with it for a few hrs, shut it off and will not start back up. Have all the safeties engaged, brake, neutral, seat, electric PTO off. If I turn the key on and cross the big lugs on the solenoid it starts and runs as long as I want it to, shut if off and nothing from the key. The head lights come on, just no start, no movement at all from the alt gauge except for the head light load. I replaced the ignition switch, same story.
Thinking it is the solenoid now but all those safety switches make me nervous. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

see if you have power to the little wire when the key is turning to start

Last weekend I had to move one of my cubs out of a shop I had on the other side of town and bring it back to my den. It fired turned over popped
but couldn't get it to go. In the meantime I bought the 122. Kind of had the same issue cranking mildly starting but couldn't get it to run. I put a fresh battery in the 1650 and it fired right off and ran. Took the battery and put it in the 122 started and ran well.

In my situation I believe I didn't have enough juice to start and feed the coil. Could be the same with yours so I thought I would throw the suggestion out there.

The 682 had two different wiring diagrams, based upon the Chassis Serial Number.

What is your S/N....?????

Welcome to OCC! Check all your connections.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it, SN is 2050600U738730, again just because I'm new when you ask for this is it really just the last 6 numbers you are looking for?
Sorry I didn't get back sooner.

Not that I'm advocating fixing things that aren't broken but for as cheap as a solenoid is, I'd just replace it. It. Couldn't hurt. plus you don't have to use a Cub brand solenoid. I've actually went to a local auto parts store before and picked up a Ford solenoid for $12 + tax and it worked like a charm. Otherwise if you are still paranoid about the safety switches, they are easy to bypass for testing purposes only! Do not leave any safety switches bypassed, it is very easy to get badly hurt! That being said, simply unplug the two connections from a safety switch and short them together. Do one at a time to keep it simpler. but remember, DO NOT LEAVE THEM SHORTED!

From the Ignition Sw, this is the "flow"

Ign Sw "S" terminal to the PTO Sw :"C" terminal......Leaves the PTO Sw on "D" terminal and goes to the Brake Pedal Sw on a terminal.....Leaves the Brake Redal Sw on opposite terminal and goes to the Starter Solenoid. There should be continuity across these device terminals.

With a VOM or DVM, one can trace this down fairly quickly.

Welcome to OCC! Good luck with your 682!

Thanks again Guys, I am not getting power to the solenoid from the small wire, guessing that is my problem.
Thanks R Bedell for that wiring trace that was the direction I was headed but you just took all the guess work out of it!
I had also heard about the auto parts store for the solenoid so may go there too but I think I am on the right track now.
I have several other "things" I want to explore for this tractor so I will let you know how this goes and you will be hearing from me again.
