122 Back Together, What to do next?
 

Here is my 122 back together again. New gear lube. Seems more quiet. Trying to decide what to tackle next. The gas tank has a micro leak. It doesn't drip, but just stays damp. I have visions of an aluminum welded tank. (might hide some hydraulics somewhere, so I might make a dual purpose gas/hydraulic fluid tank). The clutch works OK, but I think the bearing needs replaced. I still can't find any serial numbers. Does anyone have a way to determine if it a 122? I can pull the head as a last resort to determine bore and stroke, but I want to wait until I'm ready for a major overhaul. (I noticed a slight knock today while giving rides to the kids). I fixed a weeping gas tank on my 72 with Red Cote, I bought it at O'Reilly's auto parts, about$27 for a quart, would work for a bunch of cub tanks. Put some inside the tank, shake it around to coat the interior, pour the excess out, let dry a week. Leak is permanently fixed.

Just a thought.

Red coat- good stuff! A friend used it to coat his old simplicity tank. That was 2 years ago & still holding.

Look for the serial number under the seat on top of the rear end. I took the panel between the fenders off to find mine.

Here is my observation on your engine.It seems to be a replacement engine because it is black instead of yellow.It is probably newer than the tractor. The dipstick on the cam cover instead of on top of the engine tells me it is a 12 hp K301 with balance gears.(unless someone has removed them).(I believe the 10 hp K241 did not have balance gears,thus it would have oil dipstick on top of engine and not on the cam cover.) But of course,if you can read the foil tag and serial number on the engine itself,you can tell what it is by that.
