Model #551 Snow Thrower on a 800
 

Hello, I just bought a snow thrower model #551(2 stage) and I am trying to put it on an model #800 Cub. It hooks up to the tractor perfectly, but when I put the pto on, it run the thrower for about 5 seconds and then it throws off the belt. I went and bought another belt(2" shorter). Same thing happens. As I look at the pto and the bottom pulley on the thrower, it does not line up straight. The belt comes up from the bottom pulley on an angle. It's not much of an angle but I think it is enough to throw it off. Has anyone come against this kind of problem. Any suggestion would be helpful. I thought if I could just space out the pto, that would work but I don't know if you can do that. Maybe move the motor forward, again I have never done anything like that. Several things. One, a 551 is designed for a much newer tractor than an 800 and uses a 5/8" belt. All the attachments for the 800 are for a 3/8" belt. The tractors that the 551 is designed for have engines that sit further forward.

The most important thing here is that the 551 takes a minimum of about 16 hp to run it. There is NO WAY the 8 hp engine in the 800 can run a 551. Your best bet here would be to either sell the 551 and get a QA36A (the correct thrower for the 800) and a creeper drive if the tractor doesn't already have one (necessary for a snowthrower) or get a newer tractor that the 551 will fit.

The 551 will fit the following:

1862, 1782, 2082, 2182 above S/N 821,101

1440, 1641, 1861, 1863, 1864, 2084, 2284, 2086(maybe)

The 2130 uses a model 340 or 341 snowthrower.
