Broke the pulling tractor
 

hey guys, fixed the midwest super cub clutch in my 102 pulling tractor, clutch worked great, loaded it with weight, went to the pull, and we were pulling great with pretty good traction, then at 2650lbs the rear end made a snap sound, turns out we broke the carrier, not the axles they are fine , so that wasnt a good pull, the whole rear was replaced awile ago too, everything was stock other than the clutch, so we removed the axles and broken carrier and started to wipe everything out, i am going to go with fine spline i think:bigthink::angry::bash2:

i have a great running stock 10hp kohler in the 102, it runs out of power when the sled starts to get really heavy, i am running 23 8.50 12 carlisle power trac ag tires on the back

stock carriers and axles don't cut it for pulling. top shafts and shift forks are not far behind.

what gear do you run that you run out of power?

Our 10hp doesn't run out of power.It will spin before that.We only run 1st or 2nd and there stock gears and the motor only has the head shaved.And we haven't broke an axle or carrier but i'm putting a built 14hp in in the off season.And i'm putting a fine spline rear in and a hardened top shaft and all the good stuff because sooner or later it will break. :bash2::bash2:

It's the variable to the equation.

i had 3 weights that are 225lbs each , so 675lbs total, one was in the middle, the other 2 were on the back , a heavy counter weight of a manhole cover cut in half , 3 steel plate slabs in the middle about 25lbs each, and 25lb wheel weights on each side and really heavy wheel weights on each side , so there was about 1000lbs on it:bash2:

We run classes 900 lbs 1100 lbs and then 1300 lbs this is with our club.Then at our local fair we pull with 1400 lbs 2 pulls.Pulling weight tranfer sled.So how much do you weight your tractor at cub.

Darn thats way to much if you ask me.But thats my opinion

I think that is why he powers out, and why the carrier broke.

I've seen stock carriers and axles break at #950. They just are not heavy duty enough for pulling applications.
