K321 Balance Gears
In the process of installing a Kohler K321AS engine and noticed that this engine has the balance gears.
Question: Can the balance gears be removed from the engine without removing the crank and camshaft? If so, how can this be done? Any thoughts or comments would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks GEL |
I have removed the balance gears from all of mine by just removing the oil pan.
Take the snap rings off of the ends of the shafts and work them off. It did take a little finagling, but keep rotating the engine while working them off of the shafts. I have heard of guys taking a hammer to them and busting them up to remove them, but I have never had to resort to that. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...toilpan003.jpg |
if the snap rings are good and tight , I keep them in.

if the gear wobbles on the pin the bearings and pins are worn. take them out. if you really want them. get new pins, bearings and snap rings
